Many different factors have to combine in order to produce a wine of superior quality.
The distinctive flavour of our wine results from particularily favourable climatic and geological conditiones of the southern Mosel valley. However, these natural conditiones are just one factor to contribute to the production of outstanding wines.
It is the winegrower himself who strives for the highest quality of his product. For many generations our vineyard has maintained a unique family tradition that has been faithful to the indigenous Elbling type of grape. As early as 1926 our vineyard was honored with a special award for a 1921 vintage by the Department of Agriculture of the Rhein province. Today White - and Red Elbling (65% ), Grauburgunder, Auxerrois, Kerner and Rivaner are growing on 7 hectares fertile land. We attach great value to organic farming methods and natural cultivation of the wine in the barrel.
Our champagne is being rated among the best of its kind, a "fine sparkling wine that matches the high end of French champagne" according to the Gourmet Journal. Pioneering work has always been our trademark. In 1978 we started a moderate champagne production. Today a large amount of our white wine is refined to champagne - of course in the traditional "methode champenoise", the fermentation in the bottle.
Try our wines and champagnes, and convince yourself of our unique quality.
Our spezial Wine
For more than 2000 years the Elbling grape is being cultivated in this part of the Mosel valley. It belongs to the oldest type of grape known in Europe. The mild climate and the Muschelkalk soil are ideal preconditiones for growing this rarity among German white wines. Elbling is a refreshing dry wine that goes down well with fish, seafood or cheese. Its particular character is an ideal basis for the production of outstanding champagne in its traditional "methode champenoise" (fermentation in the bottle). Because of its straight, refreshing and tangy character Elbling champagne is a rarity among the best champagnes in the world.
